JICS Founder and Managing Director Aman Sethi recently appeared on ausbiz and shared his insights on the  immigration landscape in Australia. He shared the need for businesses to tap into overseas talent in sector such as nursing, manufacturing, technology and construction to fill dire skills shortages. He discussed how business sponsorship migration, aligning with trends in the US, will be key to filling these critical jobs and contributing towards Australia’s economic and sector growth, including the ability to meet the Government’s housing targets.

Aman also weighed in on the potential impact of the international student cap and the new US administration, noting Australia’s pro-business stance will limit the impact of policies being implemented overseas.

Aman predicts business confidence to improve over the next year, as interest rates decline and consumer spending increases. An eventual rise in immigration will help balance labour shortages.

Every migrant’s journey is different, but they often face similar challenges, and JICS Founder Aman Sethi’s journey was no different.

Aman recently shared the story behind why he founded JICS with Indus Age.

Reflecting on his experience moving to Australia at the age of 10 and watching the challenges his parents faced, Aman was inspired to make a difference on how migrants pave their future in Australia. He gave the example of his mother’s journey, a qualified teacher overseas who was unable to continue her profession in Australia due to restrictions on international qualifications being accepted. As a result, she was faced with a significant career shift.

At JICS, we work with many migrants in similar positions – C-suite professionals, senior leaders or business owners who face a new reality and are forced to rebuild their careers. These experiences have shaped JICS mission to help migrants just like Aman’s parents to navigate a better start in a new country.

Campus Review

The Australian Government will introduce an international student cap of 270,000 in 2025 – but is the impact as dire as it appears?

JICS Founder and Managing Director Aman Sethi was called on by esteemed education publication, Campus Review to weigh in on the Government announcement.

During an interview with Erin Morley, Editor at Campus Review, Aman shared the following key sentiments on the Student Cap:

Let students be the first to apply: “Whenever you put a cap on something, it creates that sense of urgency. People who are really serious about their education, really serious about coming to Australia and furthering their studies, are going to be the ones that going to be first in line to get those spots.”

A student’s motivation level increases: “Sometimes, scarcity creates demand. Sometimes it increases the level of motivation for people that can say, “Okay, there are x number of spaces, so I need to be the one to get into one of these spaces,” and then they work harder and faster and are more on getting one of those spots.”

Catching up with other countries: “The UK and the US have gotten really stringent over the last six months with their practices. From a global point of view, it’s gotten stricter everywhere. This new rule will make Australia an attractive option for a lot of these international students from offshore. And we want to make sure that doesn’t go away.”

Aman also referenced past changes, including Ministerial Direction 107, which slowed the overall processing on visas, changes in age eligibility for postgraduate visa applications and a harder English language test, and while an initial impact was felt, they ultimately improved the overall quality of the system.
